This building provides for the testing of drinking water being supplied to Cork City. The site treats and supplies more than 18 million gallons of water a day to the greater area of Cork City.
Accommodation provided in the new building includes a chemical laboratory, a microbiological laboratory, an instrumentation laboratory and offices. The design responds by organising the laboratory and office elements either side of a naturally lit circulation space. A limestone wall draws a line along one side of this space and extends beyond the building envelope to mark the building’s entrance. An external plant room is located above.
